For this Colerain Township roof replacement, TruCraft Exteriors removed the existing roofing system down to the wood sheathing and installed a new CertainTeed Landmark® shingle roof in Heather Blend.
With the existing roofing removed, the crew could prepare the roof deck for the new roofing system. CertainTeed SwiftStart® starter shingles and ice and water shield were installed as part of the roof preparation before the new Landmark shingles went down.
More Than New Shingles
Beyond the shingles, the project included several important roof details. TruCraft installed new pipe flashings at the plumbing vent penetrations, reflashed the home’s skylights, added new sheet metal flashing and trim, and installed new ridge ventilation.
Roof penetrations and transitions are particularly important areas to address during a replacement because they can become potential points for water intrusion when they’re not properly flashed. Taking care of these components while the roof was being replaced allowed the crew to approach the project as a complete roofing system rather than simply replacing the visible shingles.
The new ridge ventilation also helps warm, moist air escape from the attic when working together with adequate intake ventilation, supporting better airflow through the attic space.
CertainTeed Landmark® in Heather Blend
The homeowners selected CertainTeed Landmark® shingles in Heather Blend, a dimensional color that combines warm brown, tan and earthy tones. The variation adds texture across the roof while complementing the natural surroundings and warm exterior colors of the home.
At 34 squares, the roof represents approximately 3,400 square feet of roofing, making the shingle color and overall finish an important part of the home’s exterior appearance.
The completed Colerain Township roof replacement addressed the components homeowners see as well as many of the details they don’t always notice. From the shingles and ridge ventilation to the skylight, plumbing vent and sheet metal flashing, each part contributes to the performance of the finished roofing system.
